On next November 30, 2020, Marissa Carnevale took part in the 19th Annual Ontario Bar Association (OBA) Franchise Law Conference as a panelist.
The panel, aptly named “Top 10 Things to Know when Franchising in Quebec”, addressed ten essential matters that franchisors and their counsel looking to expand their activities into Quebec must take into account, including:
- French language compliance
- Pre-contractual disclosure norms and other practices driven by good faith requirements under Quebec’s Civil Code.
- Fundamentals of “adhesion contracts” and their effects
- “Implicit obligations” inherent in any franchise agreement governed by Quebec law
