Lapointe Rosenstein Marchand Melançon is proud to be party to the Intern Recruitment Agreement among major Quebec law firms. The Agreement was drawn up several years ago at the behest of law student associations that wanted to establish a uniform recruitment period. The Agreement sets general recruitment parameters for students who have completed at least thirty-six (36) credits as part of their law program. The Agreement prohibits the recruitment of first-year students for student and articling positions (except in the case of students from the co-op program of the Faculty of Law of University of Sherbrooke).
This year, our recruitment process will take place as follows. After examining all the résumés we receive, about 100 selected students will be called in for an initial 15- to 20-minute interview which will be held in the presence of two attorneys from our firm. Some 30 students from among those with whom we meet will be short-listed for a second interview lasting about 30 minutes which will be held in the presence of five to six members of our Recruitment Committee. Some of these students will then be invited to a cocktail where they will have an opportunity to meet with most of the attorneys in our firm. Internship offers will then be made to some of the candidates who were invited to the cocktail.
The firm has set the following schedule In conformance with the Recruitment Agreement:
♦ February 6, 2013: cutoff date for receipt of résumés from students covered by the Agreement;
♦ from February 22 to February 26, 2013: convocation of candidates for a first interview;
♦ from March 4 to March 7, 2013: initial interviews;
♦ from March 8 to March 11, 2013: convocation of candidates for second interviews;
♦ from March 11 to March 18, 2013: second interviews;
♦ March 20, 2013: cocktail for some candidates and the majority of our firm’s attorneys;
♦ March 22, 2013: articling offers.
